The Geothermal Energy Association of Southern Africa is a voluntary association for the mainstreaming of geothermal heating, cooling and power generation technology into the Southern African region. The GEASA is a member-driven, section 21, non-profit association established in 2011 and acts as the official site of information, training, competence certification, skills development and public awareness. It aims to build the necessary industry infrastructure and to provide a credible, consistent and reliable partner to the public, governments and power utilities. Members of GEASA are drawn from a wide variety of professions and trades including consultants, contractors, drillers, loop installation technicians, equipment suppliers and academics.
- To inform, develop and promote the efficient use of ground source heat pumps and geothermal power technology in Southern Africa.
- To plan, coordinate, manage and carry out activities that overcome barriers to effective market penetration for ground source heat pump products and services, including first cost competitiveness, infrastructure development & consumer confidence building.
- To develop and maintain sound industry-related standards in order to protect the consumer.
- To discipline members who might be in breach of the Code of Professional Conduct.
- To support the effective marketing of ground source heat pumps and geothermal power technology in Southern Africa;
- To identify and support sanctioned affiliate institutions for the purpose of training and industry research;
- To develop and distribute internationally recognized training materials;
- To enable its members to have direct input into any published materials;
- To provide a forum for information interchange;
- To represent the Association in matters of local, state, national, and international interest of members.
- To develop a national programme, tied to training, competence certification and skills development that will deliver quality-assured installation to residential, commercial and industrial customers across Southern Africa.
- To improve environmental performance, principally the reduction of green house gas emissions.
- To promote local manufacture where appropriate and possible.

Classes of membership
The different classes of membership are as follows:
Founder member
Founder members were involved with the initial set up and building of the Association. They are listed on the website as such. The benefits and costs are the same as those for corporate members.
Corporate member
Corporate membership is open to companies and closed corporations.
Benefits include:
- Reduced cost of attending GEASA events and workshops for two nominees of the member corporation.
- Inclusion on the website as a corporate member.
Individual member
Individual membership is open to individuals who would like to be a part of GEASA.
Benefits include:
- Reduced cost of attending GEASA events and workshops for the individual member.
- Inclusion on the website as an individual member.
Academic
We envision academic institutions playing a large role in geothermal energy in Southern Africa, and as such we encourage the involvement of students, researchers and lecturers. Academic members are entitled to the academic discount on all GEASA events. Academic membership is issued on an individual basis.
